Alright now, I got to admit, I have read Glenn Gumbley’s rants on Twitter and Facebook for years. We were the ones who broke the story of the CHLPA getting started about five years or so ago.
This guy wrote some pretty off the wall shit. I mean I know I say some shit, but this guy made me look like a straight up pussy. some of my personal favorites would include;
“Barbarian and proceeds of corruption”
“The QMJHL, an organization of illegal and corrupt”
“The teams of the QMJHL benefit from the exploitation of children”
And the now world famous, and all time classic “Gilles “shitbag” Courteau”
I had a feeling he would get sued one day, and sure enough the QMJHL and its Commissioner both sued him over some shit he said last year.
Turns out that lawsuit went through and Gumbley was hit with a judgement to pay $ 5,000 in punitive damages to the QMJHL and $ 10,000 to the commissioner, Gilles Courteau for punitive damages and moral damages. Moral Damages? Really?
So apparently Gumbley was also ordered to apologize to the league and its commissioner and he put out a statement on the CHLPA website saying;
“Over the past year I have published a number of libelous and defamatory claims against the QMJHL and Mr. Gilles Courteau its Commissioner stating, among other things, that they were involved in crime, fraud, corruption, child exploitation, tax evasion, libel, perjury, deception and manipulation and that they were mafiosos.
These statements have been withdrawn from all websites and social media accounts under my control and I present my apologies to both the QMJHL and Mr. Gilles Courteau.”
Seriously, like this judgement really means shit. The Court really didn’t seem to take the suit too seriously by only awarding $5000 and $10000 in damages. I got more when I wrecked my truck last fall.
So, is this the end of Glenn Gumbley? Ohhhhh hell no!!!! The CHLPA Founder has taken the CHLPA to the World Association of Icehockey Players Unions!!!!! Can I get a big hell yeah! Go get em Glenn!
