Tier III National Championship In Hartford-Simsbury For Two Years

TJHN reported on June 8th that the USA Hockey Tier III National Tournament had been awarded to Hartford-Simsbury Connecticuit. Tier III Junior Nationals Leave Rochester Minnesota

The tournament is not simply moving for one year, but for two years.

The announcement came Tuesday from the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau, which bid for the tournament in conjunction with the International Skating Center. The Tier III tournament will be held in April 2014 and 2015.

With all USA Hockey sanctioned Tier III leagues agreeing to participate in the Tier III National Tournament in 2014 for the first time in years, this is a major benefit to the Hartford-Simsbury area.

The tournament had been held in Rochester, Minn., the past three years after being based in Marlborough, Mass., for three years.  The move to Minnesota three years ago prompted some leagues to skip the tournament as the citied travel costs were prohibitive.

TJHN has also learned that Glenn Hefferan has been named the Chairman of the Tournaments Organizing Committee.
