Timmins doubles up French River

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock got two goals and an assist from Marcus Blacked and Cory Sprague to help them double up the French River Rapids 6-3 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at McIntyre Arena.

Each side would tally in the opening period with Sprague getting the Rock on the board at 6:47 before Jacob Uridil countered for the Rapids at 14:55.

Action in the middle stanza saw Timmins strike for four goals in an eight-minute and 37-second span to break the contest open.

Blackned, Sprague and Jordan Rendle all lit the lamp before the second was three minutes old, which spelled an early to French River starter Al Rogers night.

Jared Hester added another for the Rock midway through the contest while Caleb Rich got one back for the Rapids with 17 seconds left in the frame.

Blackned and French River’s Austin Hickner traded tallies midway through the third to round out the scoring.

Rendle supplied two helpers to go along with his marker to give him a three-point as well for Timmins.

Matt Nixon started for the Rock and picked up the win saving 12 of 13 in one period of work.

Caleb Barris came in to begin the second and handled 25 of the 27 shots he faced in relief.

Rogers suffered the setback for French River allowing four on 21 attempts while Scott Adams kicked out 32 of 34 in 40 minutes of action.
