Congratulations to our 2022-23 USPHL Premier New England Division All-Stars as nominated and selected by the division’s coaches.
Forwards
Billy Dougherty, Northern Cyclones
The leading scorer for the National Champion Cyclones was also among the division’s overall leaders, putting up 26 goals and 29 assists for 55 points. A Cyclone since 2019 and a USPHL veteran going back to the 2018-19 season, Dougherty (‘03/Levittown, Pa.) is a flagbearer for the #trusttheprocess message, advancing from the ‘Clones’ 16U program to their 18U squad to this first year with the Premier team. In addition to his 55 points in the regular season, he had a 4-4-8 line in 11 postseason games.
Justin Tremblay, Northern Cyclones
An absolute gem of a find from the Cyclones’ coaching and scouting staff, Tremblay (‘03/Becancour, Que.) put up a 17-32-49 line in 42 games as a junior rookie, while being one of the most sportsmanlike players you’ll find – he registered just eight penalty minutes all season – and he’s never had more than that in at least the last six years of his career.
Connor Crawford, Northern Cyclones
Committed to Suffolk University
The Suffolk University commit was able to go out on top with the Cyclones’ National Championship. The ‘02 from Troy, Mich., played in just 29 games this year but put up a very impressive 14-13-27 line and then provided leadership during the postseason, over which he played seven games and added an assist. This season gives him a second straight All-Star nod after also winning in 2021-22 with his previous team.
Brady Carpenter, Islanders Hockey Club
Committed to Worcester State University
The local area ‘02 product out of Peabody, Mass., closes his three-year IHC Premier career with 77 points in 105 games and, most importantly, an NCAA commitment to Worcester State University. For the first time, he jumped over the 1.00 points per game average this year, posting a 20-25-45 line in 39 games for 1.15 points per game. He also leaves with 12 points in 18 games, including three straight trips to Nationals.
Trystan Swiger, Islanders Hockey Club
Committed to University of Arizona
The ‘02 out of Tigard, Ore., enjoyed a career season just like his teammate Carpenter, putting up 16 goals and 28 assists for 44 points in 42 games, in his second year with the Islanders. The University of Arizona commit registered a 1.05 points per game, and his +23 was his team’s best rating. He leaves the USPHL with 67 points in 83 regular season games and three points in 11 postseason games.
Wilhelm Patriksson, Islanders Hockey Club
Committed to Curry College
One season in North America was all it took for Curry College – ranked No. 5 in the NCAA’s final Division III PairWise rankings this year – to notice the ‘02 native of Stockholm. He put up 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 22 games, while also being a regular call-up to the Tier II NCDC Islanders Hockey Club, posting three points in 17 games there.
Jake Terra, Boston Junior Bruins
Terra (‘03/Marlborough, Mass.) is a homegrown product for the Junior Bruins, spending much of his hockey life at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough. He had previously played one of his three USPHL seasons with the Junior Bruins 16U team and came back to the program this year to be the offensive leader of the Junior Bruins Premier team. He posted 25 goals and 26 assists for 51 points. He was one of just four players in the division to hit the 50-point mark, joining fellow All-Stars Dougherty, Dominick Balboni and Jacob Trowt at that elevated offensive level. On top of that, he also led the team in plus/minus with a +26.
Luke Evers, Boston Junior Bruins
Committed to Assumption University
A recent commitment to NCAA Division II Assumption University in hand, Evers completed his first junior season with a 15-21-36 line in 43 games. The ‘03 Worcester native will be remaining home to join the Greyhounds after also playing for the Junior Bruins’ 18U team in 2021-22.
Dominick Balboni, Springfield Pics
The ‘03 from West Springfield, Pa., has been a career Pic, going back to 15U hockey in 2018-19 through to this year’s Premier season, over which he led the New England Division in goals (29), points (58) and points per game 1.35 – by just .01 over Billy Dougherty in that last category. Balboni is a past 16U Champion with the Pics in 2019-20, as well.
Jacob Trowt, Springfield Pics
Committed to Fitchburg State University
The New England Division assists leader with 35, Trowt (‘02) saw a 46-point season over season improvement from posting 11 points with his previous team to putting up 56 this year with the Pics. He also made an early-season commitment to Fitchburg State University. He also led the Pics with a +15 rating this season.
Chris Cordeiro, Bridgewater Bandits
Committed To Saint Anselm College
Cordeiro (‘02/Barnstable, Mass.) came into this season already with his NCAA Division III commitment in hand from Saint Anselm College. He once again proved exactly why “St. A’s” was interested in him, putting up a season of 17-20-37 in just 34 games. He closed out his Premier career with 76 points, after also putting up 39 in 2021-22, in 76 games for an exact 1.00 points per game career average with the Bandits.
Easton Stafford, South Shore Kings
Stafford (‘03/Broomfield, Colo.) led the Kings in scoring right out of 18U AAA hockey, having played last year with the esteemed Compuware program in Detroit. He posted 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points on the season. He certainly has a bright future whether his 2023-24 destination is a college hockey team or back to juniors.
Defense
Seth Orozco, Northern Cyclones
Committed To Lake Forest College
A third-year USPHL Premier defenseman and second-year Cyclones, the Lake Forest College commit was co-captain for the National Champion team. He posted better than a point per game average through 11 postseason games, leading both by example and voice, with 12 points en route to the title. For the season, Orozco posted a 6-22-28 line in 42 games, his best total yet and better than both his last two seasons combined.
Spencer Craig, Northern Cyclones
Committed To Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA)
The other co-captain of the Cyclones, Craig (‘02/Baltimore, Md.) followed a similar path to his fellow captain Seth Orozco – both played three Premier seasons, the last two with the Cyclones, and both also put up more points this season than their last two years combined. Craig put up a 1-17-18 line in 42 games and led the New England Division with a +41 mark. He is committed to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).
James Eyre, Islanders Hockey Club
Like his teammate and fellow All-Star Wilhelm Patriksson, Eyre was in his first international season, joining IHC from Morzine, France. A past member of France’s junior teams, he jumped right into the Islanders and was one of the top 2004-born blueliners certainly in the division, if not overall in the Premier. He posted a 4-17-21 line in 31 games, and he added a 1-1-2 line in seven playoff games as the Islanders qualified for Nationals for a fourth straight season.
Cameron Craig, Boston Junior Bruins
Committed To Post University
Our third three-year Premier blueliner that makes All-Star, Cameron Craig is no relation to the Cyclones co-captain Spencer Craig, except in the All-Star brotherhood. He played all three seasons since 2020-21 with the Junior Bruins and committed earlier in the season to NCAA Division II Post University. The ‘02 from Larkspur, Colo., put up a 3-21-24 line, and his +21 was the best for a non-Cyclone defenseman in the New England Division. He was also second in hits among the division’s defensemen with 52.
Luc Fricchione, Springfield Pics
Committed to Worcester State University
Like his teammate and fellow All-Star Dominick Balboni, Fricchione (‘02/West Springfield, Mass.) has spent most – although not all – of his career with the Pics. Except for an 18U season with the Northern Cyclones, he played for the Pics at the 15U, 16U, Elite and Premier levels, captaining the Pics at each of those levels as well. Previously an Elite All-Star in 2019-20, he adds Premier All-Star to his resume after putting up a 6-24-30 line in 40 games. He is committed to Worcester State University for 2023-24.
Wesly Brunello, Twin City Thunder
Brunello (‘03/Lakeville, Minn.) ended up tied for the New England Division lead in goals by a defenseman with 12, putting up a 12-12-24 line over 38 games. A first-year junior player, Brunello was brought in from Lakeville North High School and quickly anchored the Thunder blue line. He led his team with an average ice time of 24:27 per game and co-led in takeaways with 54.
Goalies
Jeffrey Fillion, Northern Cyclones
A National Champion netminder, Fillion (‘04/Chicoutimi, Que.) made the best of his second trip to Nationals in as many USPHL Premier seasons, but his first with the Cyclones. During the season, he went 19-4 (T-5th in wins) with a 1.96 GAA (eighth in the league) and a .932 save percentage. The postseason saw him go even more lights out if that was even possible, putting up a .927 save percentage and a 7-1-0-0 record. Within that was a 4-0 run at Nationals, including the W in the title game with 47 saves.
Ean Badgett, Islanders Hockey Club
Badgett (‘04/Howell, Mich.) was Top 10 overall in every one of the major categories – wins (18, seventh), goals against average (1.99, ninth) and save percentage (.935/T-6th). A former Howell High School standout, Badgett jumped from the scholastic game right into USPHL Premier excellence, helping the Islanders to the aforementioned fourth straight Nationals qualification.
