USPHL Premier 2023-24 Midwest Region Players Of The Week

Games of Nov. 1-7

Midwest West Division

Forward: Bryce Laager, Hudson Havoc

Laager (‘04/Blaine, Minn.) joined the Havoc via trade with the Jersey Hitmen on Oct. 25 and pretty much immediately made his presence  known for his new team. On Nov. 1 against Isanti, Laager put up four goals and added two assists, and then chipped in another two assists for a 4-4-8 line to kick off November. With the Havoc, Laager has been reunited with former Blaine High teammate Luke Steffen and they’ve played on the same line.

Defense: Lyndon Orr, Isanti Outlaws

Orr (‘03/Aberdeen, S.D.) made the jump to the Premier this year from the NA3HL and it’s worked out great for him and the Outlaws, as he’s posted 20 points from the blue line. Most recently, in a three-game stretch, he led the team with more than 33 minutes per game and came out with a 2-4-6 line, including a 2-2-4 performance against the Minnesota Mullets on Nov. 5, his first multi-goal performance.

Goaltender: Ian Tumm, Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings

Tumm’s fourth start of the year was his second shutout, as he stopped all 28 shots he faced from the Minnesota Blue Ox. He currently stands at 2-1-0-1 with a .952 save percentage. Along with creasemates Jude Ayling and Bora Yildirim, the Riverkings goalies have a cumulative average save percentage of .945.

Great Lakes Division

Forward: Brayden Goncalves, Nashville Spartans

Goncalves (‘04/Kelowna, B.C.) played in a pair of games against Great Lakes opponents the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones and put up three goals and two assists for five points, including a GWG on Nov. 3 in a 2-2-4 performance, a career high. Overall, the second-year Spartan now has eight points in seven games this season, half of what he put up in 41 games last year.

Defense: Petr VanVoorhis, Toledo Cherokee

VanVoorhis is in his third non-consecutive USPHL Premier season (and fourth junior season overall) and his experience is showing every time on the ice. Along with doling out five assists in their weekend sweep of Columbus, he led the Cherokee blue line corps with 20:07 per game and was a +3 in the two games.

Goaltender: Carson MacKenzie, Metro Jets

MacKenzie registered his fourth shutout in five starts, making 18 saves on 18 shots from the Battle Creek Kernels. In total this season, he has given up two goals (in a game against Buffalo) on 83 shots for a current save percentage of .976 on the season and a league-leading four shutouts.

Midwest East Division

Forward: Alexis Toussaint, Fort Wayne Spacemen

Toussaint (‘04/Varennes, Que.) built upon an amazing start that saw him named a Midwest East Player Of The Week by putting up four goals and six assists for 10 points in two games against Decatur, which included a 3-3-6 line on Nov. 4. He has improved to 33 points in 15 games this season.

Defense: Dyllan Uehlin, Fort Wayne Spacemen

Uehlin (‘03/Zionsville, Ind.) put together a strong weekend against the Decatur Blaze by posting four assists and registering a +6 rating for the victorious Spacemen. With 135 career Premier regular season games under his belt, Uehlin is second in that category among active players, second only to Charlotte’s Peter Keese (156 games). With his performance last weekend, he scored a career-high 13 points for this season.

Goaltender: Logan Givens, Motor City Gamblers

On Nov. 7, Givens (‘03/Hendersonville, Tenn.) put together his fourth straight win of the season and third since coming over in a trade from Nashville to Motor City. He stopped 29 of the 31 shots faced from the Metro Jets Development Program in a 4-2 Gamblers win. At 4-0, he has a save percentage of .934 for the season.
