USPHL Premier Northwest Division Players Of The Month: December 2024

Forwards

Roman Wolynec, Seattle Totems

Wolynec (‘05/Langley, B.C.) registered a very healthy four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in just five December games to continue to lead the USPHL Premier in scoring. He stands at 93 points through 26 games, and with nearly half a season left, there’s no telling how high up in the all-time leaderboard for single season points he could reach! He has not been held scoreless once this season, holding a league-best 26-game point streak.

Aatu Suontakanen, Seattle Totems

Suontakanen (‘05/Finland) has provided the Totems with a 1-2 punch, scoring a 5-10-15 line in five December games for the Totems and helping them to their current 19-game winning streak. The only team that has beaten Seattle this year was the 29-0 Vernal Oilers. He has 22 goals and 70 points in 24 games this season, his first in North America.

Sami Kallionkieli, Vernal Oilers

Kallionkieli (‘05/Helsinki, Finland) has been huge in holding down the fort for the Oilers, offensively and pushing them to 28 straight wins to the end of December. He registered a line of 5-12-17 during the Oilers’ eight games. He is on a 15-game, 35-point scoring streak.

Forward Honorable Mention: Roni Alanko, Vernal Oilers

Defense

Marek Mraz, Vernal Oilers

Mraz (‘06/Kolin, Czechia) split his December games between two teams, as he was traded mid-month from the Iron County Yeti to the Oilers. All told, he registered seven goals and five assists for 12 points, for a 1.33 points per game average. For the season, he has 29 points in 27 games, ranking eighth in Premier defenseman scoring.

Braden Wilson, Colorado Fighting Elk

Wilson (‘06/Fort Collins, Colo.) joined the Fighting Elk from the Bellingham Blazers during the month of October and has been a great addition for the first-year Colorado squad. In 16 games with Colorado, he has 10 points, and that includes a 6-2-8 line in his seven December games, giving him a 1.14 points per game average.

Defense Honorable Mention: Drew Heiser, Seattle Totems

Goaltender

Creedon Dyck, Bellingham Blazers

Dyck (’04/St. Albert, Alb.) enjoyed a strong 3-1-0-0 month of December for the Blazers, including wins against two non-division opponents at the USPHL Las Vegas Showcase. He stopped all 30 shots he faced from the Isanti Outlaws at the showcase, giving him his first USPHL showcase. Dyck stopped 136 of 147 shots in December for a .925 save percentage. He is 8-6-0-0 on the season with a .911 save percentage.

Goaltender Honorable Mention: Levente Hegedus, Vernal Oilers

Selection Process: The division’s coaches are presented with a ballot form with statistical leaders (ranked by points per game average for skaters and save percentage for goaltenders) and vote on that form. The league takes the results of that vote and presents the coaches with the finalists, who are able to vote on further changes if desired.
