4-point night for Locke as Abitibi blanks Mattawa

IROQUOIS FALLS – Brenden Locke tallied twice and set-up two others while Chet Tooker turned aside all 22 shots he faced for his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Abitibi Eskimos blanked the Mattawa Blackhawks 7-0 Saturday at Jus Jordan Arena.

Brady Clouthier supplied the only goal his side would need on this night as he notched him team-leading 13th of the season with 67 seconds remaining in the opening period.

Abitibi took control of the contest in the middle frame, scoring three times, including one from Brennan Roy just 55 seconds after the drop of the puck to begin the period.

Clouthier’s second of the night and club-best 14th of the campaign made it 3-0 at 4:32 while Locke had his first six and a half minutes later.

The Eskimos finished off the one-sided win in the third on markers by Locke, Blake Cudmore and Dalton Bruce to wrap-up the scoring.

Other two assist nights were supplied by Kezmin Madden and Roy.

The victory snapped a four-game winless drought for Abitibi.

Joe Sheppard was pelted with 58 pucks in a losing cause for Mattawa.

The Blackhawks finish off a road trip Sunday at 4:30 p.m. as they head to Cochrane to meet the Crunch at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
