Every year it seems a different rumor gets started because one player or another gets a main camp invitation to a Tier II or Canadian Junior A team.
Recently some people are talking about some Canadian Tier II or Junior A teams “signing” players for the 2020-2021 season.
So to put this rumor to rest, I am here to tell you that anyone saying this is an absolute liar.
No Canadian Junior A or Tier II teams sanctioned under Hockey Canada can sign new players for the 2020-2021 season until after the RBC Championship (National Championship) is complete. The date is June 1st for signings.
Not one signing or rostering of any player for 2020-2021 will take place before that day.
This “rumor” is usually spread by the player, or someone else working with the player who doesn’t know the rules.
Sometimes it is spread by teams looking to use the information to boost their tryout camp numbers. Make them look like they are ready to sign players immediately, when then simply can not.
So, everyone relax. Tier II will be waiting to take your camp money this summer. Don’t worry.
Or you can do the smart thing and get an Adviser who knows the rules, and can put you in a position of not chasing rumors and useless open camp invitations.
