Canada Border Closure Extended – Likely To Remain Closed Until April Or May 2021

The Canadian and United States border closure was extended through December 21, 2020. This is the seventh such extension since the COVID pandemic began in March 2020.

Multiple sources placed within the Canadian Armed Forces and Provincial Government are now reporting that the border closure will continue to be extended until wide spread vaccinations are available to all Americans and Canadians.

In light of that extension and expected subsequent extensions, the ECHL North Division has decided to take the entire season off.

Multiple sources are now reporting that the American based teams in the OHL and WHL are now considering playing against themselves in order to save their season. No border crossing waivers are expected for any Major Junior teams.

Additionally no border crossing waivers are expected for the NHL or AHL, complicating all professional hockey, and almost ensuring a series of hub cities to be used until a vaccine is made available.
