USPHL Premier 2023-24 Midwest Region Players Of The Week

Games of Oct. 17-23, 2023

 

Midwest East Premier

Forward: Brian Bell, Motor City Gamblers 

Bell (‘03/Macomb, Mich.) enjoyed a career single game outing with a 3-2-5 line on Oct. 21 against Decatur. To that he added four more assists over the three-game sweep. He is now at 14 points in nine games and 60 points in 52 career regular season games.

 

Defense: Richard Biszant, Motor City Gamblers 

Biszant (‘03/Colorado Springs, Colo.), a third-year USPHL veteran who joined from the USPHL Elite, posted four assists in the Gamblers’ three games against Decatur.

 

Goaltender: Maxim Zinchenko, Fort Wayne Spacemen 

The second-year ‘04 goalie stopped 28 of 30 shots against the Columbus Mavericks on Oct. 21. That improved him to 4-2 on the season and a career mark of 10-3-0-1 with a .930 save percentage.

 

Midwest West Division

 

Forward: John Becker, Minnesota Moose

Becker (‘03/Dellwood, Minn.) put up the hat trick – including the OT GWG – on Oct. 20 and added a 1-2-3 line with another winner the next day to sweep the Dells Ducks. He had seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in six games this year and 66 points in 50 career games. 

 

Jack Kopfstein, Dells Ducks

Another big-time Premier veteran, the ‘05 blueliner from Vista, Calif., had three goals and an assist in the Ducks’ 5-4 OT loss to the Minnesota Moose. The goals game shorthanded, on the power play and even strength. He also blocked six shots on the weekend. Kopfstein had 57 points in 83 career games.

 

Goaltender: Wes Johnson, Hudson Havoc

Johnson (‘05/Elk River, Minn.) turned away 55 of the 57 shots he faced in a Havoc 3-1 win over an offensively powerful Minnesota Squatch team on Saturday. He has started out 2-0-0-1 with a .950 save percentage. 

 

Great Lakes Division 

Forward: Aidan Gonzalez, Toledo Cherokee

Gonzalez (‘05/Dearborn, Mich.) enjoyed a hat trick on Saturday, including the GWG, and then put up a 2-1-3 line the next night as the Cherokee swept Buffalo in two. He has 11 goals and 25 points in 11 games, missing the scoresheet just once.

 

Defense: Carson Redd, Metro Jets 

An ‘04 from Macomb, Mich., Redd scored a pair of goals and added three helpers, including a 2-2-4 line on Oct.18. He also added an assist on Oct. 17 as the team earned the sweep against Buffalo.

 

Goaltender: Sam Shifflett, Toledo Cherokee 

The third-year Cherokee, an ‘03 from Wyandotte, Mich., put together a fantastic second win of his season. He stopped 30 of 31 shots from Buffalo on Oct. 20, giving him a .968 save percentage. Over 10 career games, he has a 5-2-0-0 record.
