Rating The Junior Hockey Leagues – Returning With Changes

For the last seven years, TJHN has put out a series of articles at the conclusion of each season. In these articles we have gone on to rate leagues in different classifications.

Major Junior and the USHL have been in one class, Tier II included the NAHL, NCDC and Canadian Junior A, and Tier III was a little larger group, follwed by Canadian Junior B.

This year, we will be adding leagues to each category.

To the USHL/Major Junior category, we will add some of the top European junior leagues.

To the Tier II category we will add multiple leagues located in Canada.

To the Tier III category we will add multiple leagues in Canada.

To the Junior B category some leagues will be eliminated due to changes in league structures.

We are making these changes to provide readers with the most current information possible that may impact their decision making process.

All leagues will be graded and rated based upon players advancing their careers from these leagues. This will not be based upon competition levels. Simply put, some leagues have some better players, and some leagues do a much better job at promoting players than the leagues that have more talent.

The final edition of these ratings will be a combined ranking of all leagues. We will expand this ranking from the twenty leagues we have previously listed to thirty for this year.

We welcome your comments and input as we release these rankings beginning next week.
