Worcester Railers JHC 4, Boston Jr. Rangers 1
The Railers were the first of the new NCDC teams for 2024-25 to get into the win column, marking their historic first victory in the first league game for both teams. After a quiet first, scoring-wise, Colby Dobek scored the first NCDC goal of the year at 1:42 of the second. Dobek (’05/Buffalo, N.Y.) added another later for the first two-goal game of the season, and he also earned an assist for a three-point debut. Ben Jarosz (’05/Orlando, Fla.) scored the Railers’ first game-winner in the second, and Mark Trischler (’05/Canonsburg, Pa.) also scored for Worcester.
Tyler Daley (’04/Pewaukee, Wis.) scored the first Boston Jr. Rangers NCDC goal at 12:31 of the second. Cole Scullion (’06/Hamilton, Ont.) made 29 saves on 30 shots for the win.
Islanders Hockey Club 4, Seacoast Spartans 2
The Islanders kicked off their season with a 4-2 victory over first-year NCDC members the Seacoast Spartans. Hunter Belisle (’05/Amesbury, Mass.) scored a goal and added one assist, while Hunter Robitaille (’05/Ottawa, Ont.) and Morris Schneider (’04/Newton, Mass.) had two assists apiece. Veteran IHC player Joseph Samango (’05/Havertown, Pa.) sent home the winner to put the Islanders at 1-0. Ryan Crowshaw (’04/East Hartford, Conn.) stopped 24 of 26 shots for the win.
Brendan Agnew (’05/Fort Mill, S.C.) scored the first goal in Seacoast Spartans NCDC history.
Thunder Hockey Club 4, South Shore Kings 3
Playing with a new name in a new building, the Thunder Hockey Club (formerly the Twin City Thunder) opened their new home rink in Middleton, Mass., with a 4-3 victory against the defending Dineen Cup Champion South Shore Kings. Josh Reaska (’06/Chicago, Ill.) scored the Thunder’s first goal 1:16 into his first junior game after coming over from the Chicago Reapers AAA organization. Returning King Xavier Vaillancourt (’04/Montreal, Que.) scored two goals, with the second tying the game 3-3. Gaber Jovanovic Sorn, an ’06 from Jesenice, Slovenia, scored the first GWG for the newly-minted Thunder, and added two assists to post the day’s second three-point NCDC debut. Ayzek Waldron (’05/Cadyville, N.Y.) earned two assists for the Thunder, while veteran Thunder goalie Jeffrey Kreidler (’04/Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 27 saves for the win.
