NCDC Roundup: Oct. 11, 2024

Northern Cyclones 8, Boston Jr. Rangers 1

Michael Markowski (’04/Spring Lake, N.J.) led the way on Friday with two goals and an assist to help the Cyclones to a big victory against the Jr. Rangers. Also earning three points were Lukas Saving (’05/Stockholm, Sweden), Noah Tano (’05/San Mateo, Calif.) and Lorenzo Marra (’06/Latham, N.Y.) each with a 1-2-3 line. Isac Martins (’04/Lake Barrington, Ill.) and Loik Leduc (’06/Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que.) each registered two assists. In net, veteran Logan Abric (’04/Hayward, Wis.) earned his third win of the year with 23 saves on 24 shots.

 

Worcester Jr. Railers 2, Seacoast Spartans 1 (OT) 

Colby Dobek (’05/Buffalo, N.Y.) scored twice for the Railers, including the overtime game-winner, to give them a narrow victory against fellow first-year NCDC members the Spartans. Cole Werthman (’06/Levittown, Pa.) stopped 26 of 28 shots for his first win in his first NCDC game. Werthman also had an assist on Dobek’s first goal.

 

South Shore Kings 3, Islanders Hockey Club 2 (OT)

The Kings came back from a 2-0 deficit in the third period to defeat the host Islanders Hockey Club on Friday afternoon. Arthur Nilly (’05/Beaumont, France) scored the OT goal, which was also his first North American goal. Veteran defenseman and returning Dineen Cup champion Jason Zaccari (’05/Santa Ana, Calif.) posted two assists, including on Nilly’s GWG. Lukas Fursten (’05/Ilava, Slovakia) made 26 saves on 28 shots for his league-leading sixth win, all coming in a winning streak dating back to Sept. 20.

 

P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 5, West Chester Wolves 2

Arthur Mirante (’04/Garden City, N.Y.) scored twice to help lift the Jr. Islanders to a 5-2 victory against West Chester, avenging an Oct. 4 5-1 loss to the same Wolves. Also helping to chip in for the win were Robert LaChance (’04/West Hartford, Conn.)  with a goal and an assist, and Michael Calabrese (’05/Wantagh, N.Y.) with two assists. Lukas Vejmekla (’04/Trebic, Czechia) had 30 saves on 32 shots for the win.

 

Jersey Hitmen 2, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 1

The league’s leading scorer among defensemen, Wilson Farrow (’04/Sudbury, Ont.) scored the regulation game-winning goal to help lift the Hitmen past the Knights. Jack Kavetsky (’06/Westminster, Calif.) registered his second win in as many junior starts by making 22 saves on 23 shots.

 

Thunder Hockey Club 3, Utica Jr. Comets 2

Jory Veenstra (’04/Kansas City, Mo.) scored the regulation GWG for the Thunder Hockey Club, who remain completely undefeated at 5-0-0-0. Veenstra came over from the NA3HL, and has a strong history in the former USPHL (now THF) Midget Divisions. Second-year Thunder goalie Jeffrey Kreidler (’04/Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 41 of 43 shots in the victory, and Joshua Itri (’06/Sandwich, Mass.) put up a goal and an assist.

 

Mercer Chiefs 3, Rockets Hockey Club 2

After a tough start to the season, the Chiefs are rebounding nicely with three wins to start October. On Friday night, they rebounded from being down 1-0 after two periods to win 3-2. Justin Thibeault (’08/Levis, Que.) scored the regulation GWG. He joins as a first-year junior from the Levis Chevaliers. Jake Stevens (’05/Newton, N.J.) registered two assists and Dominick Gatto (’05/St. Charles, Ill.) stopped 38 of 40 for the win.

 

Ogden Mustangs 6, Rock Springs Grizzlies 2

The Mustangs had a fun night, as William Cherniak (’04/Desert Blume, Alb.) scored a goal and added three assists for a four-point performance in Ogden’s 6-2 victory. University of Notre Dame commit Jackson Walsh (’05/Northville, Mich.) had three assists to help in the win, while Troy Hunka (’06/North Canton, Ohio) and Brody Simko (’04/Butler, Pa.)  scored two goals apiece. Earning two assists each were Jiri Duda (’05/Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Ryan Tong (’04/Burnaby, B.C.), while in net, Nicolas Rempel (’06/Winnipeg, Man.) led the way with 26 saves on 28 shots.

 

Pueblo Bulls 4, Utah Outliers 3

The Marshchanok twins have struck again. Two of the USPHL Premier’s all-time highest scorers in a single season are racking up the offense in the NCDC as well. Brothers Matsvei Marshchanok and Siamion Marshchanok (’05’s from Minsk, Belarus) combined for seven total points Friday night. Matsvei had a 1-3-4 line, and Siamion was second at 2-1-3. Additionally, defenseman Mykyta Bondariev (’06/Kyiv, Ukraine) put up a 1-2-3 performance. In the net, Ryan Mitchell (’06/Colorado Springs, Colo.) stopped 33 of 36 shots for the win.
