Palm Desert, Calif.- 2023 Western Hockey League Champion Kevin Korchinski can add AHL All-Star MVP honours to his already impressive resume.
The Chicago Blackhawks prospect was named the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic most valuable player after recording four points in round-robin action and potting the game-winning shootout goal for the Central Division in the championship match on Monday.

Another former WHL Champion, 2024 Ed Chynoweth Cup winner Matthew Savoie dazzled at the event with a goal and two assists in the All-Star Classic.
The Edmonton Oilers prospect also flexed his speed in the skills competition by winning the CCM Fastest Skater event with a lap of 13.654 seconds.

Seven WHL alumni participated in the event as players, while Calgary Wranglers assistant coach Brett Sutter (Kootenay ICE/ Red Deer Rebels) stepped up as the Pacific Division coach with Wranglers bench boss Trent Cull called up to the Calgary Flames for the time being.

WHL legends and AHL alumni Grant Fuhr and Lorne Henning were also recognized as honourary Captains for the All-Star Classic.
Hockey Hall-of-Famer and five-time Stanley Cup Champion Fuhr captured a WHL Championship with the Victoria Cougars (now based in Prince George) in 1981 and is considered one of the greatest WHLers of all time.
Fuhr was named WHL Rookie of the Year in 1980 before claiming WHL Goaltender of the Year in 1981.
Lorne Henning was a pioneering player when the burgeoning WHL was still called the Western Canada Hockey League.
The Melfort, Sask. product suited up for the Estevan Bruins from 1968-1971 before closing out his junior career with the New Westminster Bruins in 1971-72.
Henning was named the WCHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player in 1971 and piled up a tremendous 390 points (182G-208A) in 246 regular season games.
Henning went on to win two Stanley Cups with the dynastic New York Islanders of the early 1980s and has since enjoyed a long career as an NHL coach an executive.
