Guelph Storm veteran Ethan Miedema hit a significant OHL milestone on Thursday night in North Bay. The 20-year-old from Cobourg, ON became the first OHL player born this century to reach the 300 career game milestone, doing so in a 6-2 loss to the North Bay Battalion.
Reaching the 300-game landmark is something only a handful of players each season typically accomplish. The feat hasn’t occurred in several years however due to the lost 2020-21 season as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Miedema scored his 16th goal of the season in Thursday’s loss, giving him 91 goals, 128 assists and 219 points over his 300 regular season contests in a career spent between Guelph, Kingston and Windsor. The 6-foot-4, 212Ib. Miedema was a fourth round pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2023 NHL Draft, but did not sign with the club.
Originally the fourth overall pick of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection by Windsor, Miedema was dealt to Kingston as part of the deal that saw Shane Wright go to Windsor on Jan. 9, 2023. His OHL journey brought him to Guelph this past summer when the Storm acquired him for a package of draft picks.
Miedema is nine goals shy of 100 on his OHL career. His overage season continues on Friday night when the Storm wrap-up the first half of their season in Sudbury.
