TORONTO — The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is proud to celebrate 191 OHL graduates named to 2026-27 National Hockey League Opening Night rosters, with all 20 OHL member teams represented.
The 191 OHL alumni are part of a larger group of 400 graduates from across the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), consisting of 128 from the Western Hockey League (WHL) and 82 from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). CHL graduates account for 47.9 per cent of all players on NHL Opening Night rosters.
Highlighting this year’s group of alumni is Nikita Klepov of the Saginaw Spirit, the reigning OHL rookie of the year and scoring champion, who earned a spot on the Anaheim Ducks’ Opening Night roster. Former Erie Otters defenceman Matthew Schaefer also returns to the New York Islanders after capturing the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year last season.
The London Knights lead all CHL clubs with 30 alumni, followed by the Erie Otters with 16. The Barrie Colts, Flint Firebirds franchise and Windsor Spitfires each have 15, with Flint’s total including players who represented the Plymouth Whalers.
Every one of the NHL’s 32 clubs features at least three OHL graduates, led by the San Jose Sharks with 12 and the St. Louis Blues with 11.
