Why is this one so heavy? Well, it is because a good organization that has done a great job or promoting and developing players over the course of years wont be coming back this season.
The Minnesota Junior Hockey League has experienced their third team lost this season with the Ft. Wayne Federals going dark for the 2014-2015 season. Three teams in a league celebrating their 40th anniversary.
A lot of times I just get a chuckle out of this stuff folks, but when good teams go away, you cant help but think something is terribly wrong with whats happening in Tier III.
The team had a great coach in place, a good arena, a good history, and they were coming off of a very respectable 2013-2014 season. So what the hell went wrong here?
Clearly it wasn’t the venue. It certainly wasn’t the teams reputation. There was a coaching change so that may have had some impact, but other than that there is nothing on the surface that would explain things.
Ummmmmmmm yeah, well nothing on the surface except for a crap load of Tier III expansion! Hey kids, did ya hear about more than two dozen new pay to play teams in North America? Yeah, I thought you might have since we have been raving about it here for more than just a few months.
Oh yeah, um so, close to half of those new teams are not going to play, and the other half are only bringing existing teams down. Awesome business plan there kids! But hey the league offices got those franchise fee’s and league dues to support their incompetent league management and expenses! Pat yourselves on the back boys, you did a bang up job. I mean bang up job as in they have used their member teams like crash dummies!
Normally I love dragging the bodies down to the morgue. In this case I almost feel bad. Oh never mind, I’ll be right back, another ambulance just pulled up and I got work to do!
