AJ Smith Grabs NOJHL Honors Once Again

Garnering the honors for the time frame concluding Nov. 30 is Elliot Lake Wildcats goaltender A.J. Smith.

A.J. SMITH, (G) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – In two starts during the week that was the 20-year-old Smith, who hails from Southlake, Texas, allowed just one goal against in a pair of impressive victories.

He started with a solid 34-save 3-0 road shutout over the league-leading Soo Thunderbirds on Wednesday.

Smith followed that up by stopping 28 of 29 shots he faced in a hard fought 2-1 decision over the visiting Sudbury Nickel Barons Friday.

The Elliot Lake netminder currently sits second in the NOJHL in both goals-against average and save percentage at 2.54 and .925 respectively while also sharing the league-lead in shutouts with two.

Smith has achieved these numbers while being second in the NOJHL in minutes played, and third in the league in shots faced.  There are no easy nights for Smith as he is the “go to” goaltender facing the leagues top teams.

This is the second time this season Smith has earned league honors.
