Kirkland Lake clocks Abitibi

KIRKLAND LAKE – Bryan Lubin had a pair of goals Saturday evening to help the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners defeat the Abitibi Eskimos 6-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Joe Mavrinac Community Centre.

Each side would get on the score sheet in the opening 20 minutes with Lubin connecting for Kirkland Lake at 3:55 and Brenden Locke countering for Abitibi at 15:33.

The Gold Miners went up by a pair in the middle stanza getting a power play tally from Joel Fortin three minutes into the stanza while Lubin fired home his second of the night midway through the contest.

Kirkland Lake took control in the final frame tacking on three more tallies off the sticks of Alexi Rivet, Ryan Aubertin and Tristen Hazlett to round out the scoring.

The home side received two assists each from Jeremy Picard-Fiset, Jeremy Dumont and Jamey Lauzon to aid the Gold Miners offensively.

Shots on goal in the contest were 25-24 in favour of Abitibi with Josh Erickson picking up the win.

Logan Ferrington started for the Eskimos and played two periods allowing three against on 16 attempts in suffering the loss.

Chet Tooker played the third for Abitibi and gave up the final three markers on eight shots.
