4-point night for Racek as Crunch clip Blackhawks

COCHRANE – Josh Racek had a goal and three assists while Dustin Cordeiro tallied twice as the Cochrane Crunch clipped the Mattawa Blackhawks 6-1 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Cochrane picked up the lone marker in the first period as Joseph Mavrin connected on the power play 9:41 into the contest.

The Crunch added to their lead 63 seconds into the middle frame as Jason Berube tapped in his 15th of the season.

Mattawa countered 39 seconds later to cut the deficit in half with Brett Ouderkirk getting credit to extend a consecutive game point streak to six.

The home side answered that however tacking on three more markers before the middle session was complete to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Cordeiro’s first of the night came at 5:26 while Henry Berger had one shorthanded three minutes later before Racek notched his effort at 13:28.

Second team NOJHL all-star Cordeiro then rounded out the scoring with his 44th goal of the season as he converted during a man advantage at 14:44 of the third to finish things off.

Brett Young made 42 saves to secure the victory for Cochrane to snap a five-game winless drought for the Crunch.

Josh Horner saw 42 pucks fired his way in defeat for Mattawa.
