Behind a great game by Stephen Baylis, who had one goal and two assists, the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 8-3.
Baylis scored short handed 5:16 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Carleton Place. Carleton Place found itself down a man on Craig Pefley‘s slashing. Andy Sturtz assisted on the tally. Baylis dished an assist on Jordan Larson‘s goal that made the score 6-2 Carleton Place at 16:44 into the second period. He added another helper on Vinny Post‘s goal that made the score 7-2 Carleton Place at 2:44 into the third period.
The win by the Canadians clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.
Carleton Place stifled Pembroke’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians’ offense rang up 37 shots on the Lumber Kings’ net.
Carleton Place also got points from Tyson Stewart, who also had two goals and one assist, Sturtz, who also registered one goal and two assists, Post, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Larson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Pefley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Andrew Dodson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Devin Campbell, who had two and Alex Robinson, Connor Merkley, Maxime StPierre, and Ryker Killins, who contributed one each.
Pembroke was helped by Hudson Michaelis, who tallied one goal. Michaelis scored short handed 10:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. An elbowing call on Stephen Cooney put the Lumber Kings on the penalty kill. Jesse Blais picked up the assist. Pembroke additionally got points from Colton Keuhl, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryan Casselman also scored for Pembroke. More assists for Pembroke came via Cameron Hughes, Anthony Nellis, and Alexandre Boivin, who each chipped in one.
Guillaume Therien rejected 22 shots on goal for Carleton Place. The Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jordan Piccolino made 29 saves for Pembroke on 37 shots. The Lumber Kings totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Pembroke, Mitchell Mueller and Hughes were ejected from the contest.
