Rock get shutout win over Eagles

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Timmins Rock goaltender Logan Ferrington put on a clinic Friday evening stopping all 55 shots fired his way to backstop his side to a 3-0 decision over the Soo Eagles in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium.

The Eagles were flying in the opening 20 minutes blasting 23 attempts on the Timmins net, but could not solve Ferrington.

Following a goalmouth scramble in front, the Rock took the lead four and a half minutes into the second period as Devin Panzeca chipped one past a sprawled Jack Hickey in the Eagles net for his 15th of the campaign.

Special teams allowed Timmins to extend their cushion at 16:57 of the middle session when Ryan Theriault connected on the power play as he joined teammate Panzeca in the 15-goal club on the season.

Sault Ste. Marie continued to pump pucks on Ferrington the rest of the way, but the Rock stopper stood tall.

Timmins would secure their win with 44 seconds to go in the contest as Tristan Salesse iced it with an empty netter to round out the scoring scoring for a 22nd time in 2015-16.

Salesse also dished out two assists as he ran a modest point streak to four.

The shutout was the first in the NOJHL for Ferrington in a Timmins uniform as he faced a season-high 55 attempts in earning the win.

Hickey saw 30 shots put on him in defeat for the Eagles.
