Alumni Spotlight: P.A.L. Jr. Islanders Goaltender Brandon Bussi Earns First NHL Win In Debut With Carolina Hurricanes

Former P.A.L. Jr. Islanders netminder Brandon Bussi made a memorable first impression in his NHL debut, earning his first career NHL win with the Carolina Hurricanes. Bussi turned aside 16 shots to help the Hurricanes secure a 5-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Bussi, a Sound Beach, N.Y., native, developed in the USPHL’s National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) with the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders during the 2017–18 season, where he appeared in 23 games. He later played three seasons of NCAA Division I hockey at Western Michigan University, posting standout numbers before turning professional.

Since then, Bussi has steadily climbed the professional ranks, spending parts of three seasons in the AHL with the Providence Bruins before earning his NHL opportunity with Carolina. His debut performance marks another milestone in the growing list of USPHL alumni making an impact at hockey’s highest level.
