American Hockey Academy – U18 Head Coach Russ de Mariano

Leadership and success on and off the ice are qualities the American Hockey Academy Coaches bring as real life examples of how hockey can impact lives beyond the ice.

U-18 Head Coach Russ di MAriano is a local High School Archbishop Williams alumni having played on the 1996 Div. 1 state championship finalist team, a league all-star, and a patriot ledger all scholastic first team. After his career at Archbishop Williams Russ received a full division 1 NCAA hockey scholarship to Iona College in NY.

After sustaining a severe brain injury early on in his career at Iona that not only ended his time at Iona it almost ended his life. Russ had to return home to get healthy after months and months of being in the hospital. After a year and a half of hospitalization and rehab, Russ began to work out again, re-trained his body, played two seasons with Suffolk University at the NCAA Div III level, and then went on to Arizona State to play for the Independent Division 1 Sundevils.

Russ has been a coach in various capacities over the last 25 years. Russ has coached 1 on 1 at Puckmasters Skill development program. He spent 10 seasons as a coach for the Division 1 Archbishop Williams High School, helping lead the Bishops to (Catholic Central League Champions 2010 and 2013, South Sectional Champions 2010, Super 8 2013 and 2014, South Sectional Finals 2019 and currently an undefeated season).

Russ also a former Assistant coach for the u16 national bound tier 1 for the Bay State Breakers where they won their EHF league in the 2012 fall season and currently head coach for the last 7 years of the u18 National Bound Boston Junior Terriers team where he has won multiple league titles (currently ranked #1 in the state). Russ is a current scout for several teams in the USA & Canada.

On the academic side of things, Russ holds an MBA from Suffolk University and Russ was an Adjunct Professor at Newbury College teaching restaurant industry-related courses as well as business courses. Russ was also a member of the Advisory Board of The Roger A. Saunders School of Hotel & Restaurant Management at Newbury College.
