An Advisers Life – What Are You Willing To Sacrifice To Move Up?

What are you willing to sacrifice? What are you willing to do? What are you willing to give up or stop doing to move up to the next level in 2023?

If you are not currently at the level of play that you feel you should be at, then something needs to change. Maybe a lot of things need to change. It really is that simple.

You cannot continue to do what you are doing and expect things to change. That is simply an exercise in futility and a waste of time.

If I told you that you had to do three things, and that if you did these three things, you would play at a higher-level next season, would you do these things?

I ask because it is usually three things that a player is doing or not doing that has to be changed in order to reach the next level. After nearly three decades of working with players and helping them reach the highest levels, it almost always boils down to three things needing to be done.

For some it is on ice, some its off ice, some its diet, some it is educational, some it may be communication skills, for others it may be politics or any other number of items.

But if I told you as a player or parent that if you commit to three or more changes in what you have always done that I can guarantee you will get an opportunity at the next level next season, would you be able to commit to those changes no matter what?

Again, I am asking because getting to the next level will require you to change. There are reasons you are not at the next level, and not everyone will spend the time to break down those reasons and help you develop a plan to change your trajectory.

Do you know what scouts are saying about you? No. If you did, you would already be at the next level. Do you know what scouts were saying at the tryout camps you went to last spring and summer? No. All you got was a simple exit interview if lucky saying you needed to get bigger, faster, stronger, or something along those lines.

Details.

Every player advancing up is engaged in very detailed planning. The best players in the world are detail oriented. Every day is planned, and every day they work the plan.

So, what is your plan to change your situation next season?
