Brooks Bandits Claim First Ever RBC Cup

The parade route may be short, but the party in Brooks will have the feel of a National Holiday.

The Alberta city will be celebrating its first ever national Junior A hockey championship after the Brooks Bandits ended the host Summerside Western Capitals season 3-1 in Sunday’s 2013 RBC Cup Final.  The team has now become the eighth Alberta club to win the RBC Cup.

The Bandits have played three straight exhausting months of post-season hockey.  They defended their AJHL title, advanced through the Western Canada Cup and have now claimed the 2013 RBC Cup.

The Bandits were second straight No. 1 ranked CJHL team to win the RBC Cup.  The Bandits, held the No. 1 spot in the CJHL Top 20 rankings for the final 22 weeks of the regular season.

The Western Capitals are the second consecutive team from the Maritime Hockey League to lose in the championship game after Woodstock fell to Penticton last year.

Vernon British Columbia hosts the 2014 RBC Cup next May.
