Calgary Hitmen earn berth in 2026 WHL Playoffs

The Calgary Hitmen have qualified for the 2026 WHL Playoffs by nature of a 4-2 Moose Jaw Warriors loss to the Prince George Cougars.

Calgary is currently on the ice to face the Saskatoon Blades.

Entering Saturday’s action with a 31-15-6-1 record, Calgary is third in the Central Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Hitmen feature the WHL’s top powerplay, which is clicking at 33.1 percent.

Four Calgary skaters have surpassed 20 goals on the campaign- Julien Maze (31), Kale Dach (30), Andrei Molgachev (22) and Ethan Moore (22).

Dach, a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect, is also tied for the second-most game-winning tallies in the league with eight.

Captain and Calgary Flames prospect Axel Hurtig has anchored the blueline with a solid 16 points (6G-10A) and +19 rating, while 2026 NHL Draft-eligible Ben MacBeath has erupted for 40 points (6G-34A) in his first WHL season.

In net, 17-year-old Eric Tu has earned his first 20-win season with a 21-9-4-0 record, a 2.59 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage and two shutouts.

This marks Calgary’s second-straight trip to the postseason.

The Cowtown crew has hoisted the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions twice (1999, 2010), most recently in 2009-10, when they were backstopped by Goaltender of the Year and Playoff MVP Martin Jones and defenceman Michael Stone, both of whom went on to play in the NHL for more than a decade.

Calgary will host the Red Deer Rebels in a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, February 22.
