Cochrane crowns Abitibi 9-3

COCHRANE – The Cochrane Crunch scored four times in each of the final two periods to help them roll over the Abitibi Eskimos 9-3 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Each side would find the back of the net once in the opening 20 minutes with Daniel Stagg putting Cochrane on board at 4:14 followed by Dalton Bruce’s effort for the Eskimos 59 seconds later.

The Crunch took control in the middle session outscoring the visitors 4-1 on markers by Jason Berube, Aviv Milner, Joey Mavrin and Josh Racek before Brenden Locke added one late for Abitibi in the waning moments of the stanza.

After Cochrane’s Dustin Cordeiro struck shorthanded 4:19 into the third, Cameron Etherington added one on the power play for the Eskimos with 12:49 to go.

The home side answered back with the final three tallies of the evening to put the game away on goals off the sticks of Reed Gregory, Cordeiro’s second of the night and one by Jacob Erwin.

Mavrin also doled out three assists for a four-point game while Jackson Atkinson, Connor Lovie, Berube and Cordeiro added two helpers apiece.

Shots on goal favoured Cochrane 42-31 with Troy Paquette picking up the win and Chet Tooker the loss.
