Cochrane slams Abitibi

COCHRANE – The Cochrane Crunch combo of Cody Gratton and Josh Racek amassed nine points as the Cochrane Crunch handled the Abitibi Eskimos 9-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Cochrane jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one period of play getting goals from Gratton, Racek, Blake Peavey and Dustin Cordeiro while Tristan Salesse picked up one for the Eskimos.

Gratton’s second of the night accounted for the lone marker in the middle stanza as the Crunch took a four-goal lead into the third.

Racek buried the first two in the final frame to complete a hat trick while Cordeiro and Henry Berger sandwiched efforts around one from Abitibi’s Brendan Locke to wrap things up.

Brett Young finished with 35 saves to earn the win for Cochrane.

Chet Tooker and Ryan Ferguson both saw time in net for the Eskimos in the loss facing a total of 55 shots against.
