Confessions Of A Junior Hockey Coach – Deceptive Teams Deceptive Players

Honesty is a two way street is it not?  I be honest with you and I hope you be honest with me.  It is the basis for all new relationships.

Today I read many of my young friends Death Pool stories.  He is a funny man to be sure, but he touch on many sensitive subject.  With each story thought there is an undertone of one person not being honest with another.  The team not being honest with the player, parent, or league.  The League not being honest with the team, or the player or the governing body.  Or, the player not being honest with the team or most importantly himself.

Most of the problem involve pay to play leagues.  These teams an league need player money to operate.  Nothing wrong with that at all, just the way they are set up.  The problem is when someone isn’t honest.

Too often now we are seeing the team with not enough player to compete.  This also mean the team do not have enough player to pay the bills.  That is pretty important thing to remember.  If the bills can not be paid, either the player do not receive all that was promised or the team is like to fail in total at some point.

It is the player on these team that need to take a close look at themselves and begin being honest.  It is the parent that need to start being honest with themselves and their player.

If you are a player on a team that do not have enough player to compete, you have a right to change your mind and move to another team.  If the team do not provide all that was promised you have a right to move on.  Just like the team have a right to cut you if you do not pay your bill on time.

Player and parent need to be honest enough with themselves to look at whether or not they should be playing junior hockey.  Some of you should not be playing.  Start being honest.

Team need to start being honest for sure.  If you do not have enough player to compete, what are you doing?  Why are you here?  It looks to be only to collect money because you do no benefit for the player.

To be sure, some team simply need to go away.  Some player on some roster should not be playing junior hockey.  You can spend your money more wisely on a semester of college, don’t give it away to the team or your own deception.

Honesty is the two way street.  It start with being honest with yourself.  Can you do that?
