Northern Cyclones 4, Utica Jr. Comets 3 (OT)
It couldn’t be solved in 60 minutes, but the Northern Cyclones eventually put the last piece of the puzzle in when Carson Strapon scored at 16:47 of overtime to help the Cyclones come all the way back from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 against the visiting Utica Jr. Comets in the New England Division 2v3 Semifinals. Keenan Schneider had a goal and an assist and Jackson Dickson registered two assists. In net, Logan Abric stopped 40 of 43 shots in the win. For Utica, goaltender Michael Valenta made 34 saves on 38 shots. Game 2 of this series takes the ice at 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
Ogden Mustangs 3, Utah Outliers 1
The Ogden Mustangs are up 1-0 in their Mountain Division 2v3 Semifinal series against their regional rivals the Utah Outliers. The Mustangs won 3-1 on Friday night, with Troy Hunka scoring the GWG. Tommy Fetterman scored a goal and an assist, and in net, Dilans Birkans stopped 36 of 37 shots for Ogden. Marcus Ouellet stopped 24 of 27 shots for Utah. Game 2 is in West Valley City, home of the Outliers, on Sunday at 12:05 p.m. MDT.
Idaho Falls Spud Kings 3, Pueblo Bulls 2 (OT2)
Game 2 ended with a 3-2 Spud Kings victory in double overtime. The winner came off the stick of William Donovan at 17:57 of the second OT, approximately 11:45 p.m. local time. Donovan also had an assist, Andrew Schmidt had two goals and an assist and Easton Edwards registered two assists. Charlie Durkin stopped 38 of 40 shots for the win in the Spud Kings’ net, while Noel Friedman made 58 saves on 61 shots for Pueblo. Game 3 is in Pueblo on Sunday at 7:07 p.m. MDT.
