Mercer Chiefs 5, Jersey Hitmen 4
The Mercer Chiefs evened up their series with the Jersey Hitmen with a 5-4 win at the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J., also site of the Dineen Cup Championship Series (April 25-29). Samuel Ciappa scored twice, Gregory Diamond and Justin Thibault each had a goal and an assist, and Brody Finnegan and Ryan Stratton each posted two helpers. Cole Werthman stopped 47 of 51 shots for the Chiefs, and Nick Bunch made 36 saves on 41 shots for the Hitmen. Game 3 in the series will begin at Tuesday at 1 p.m. also back at the Ice Vault in Wayne.
Utah Outliers 3, Ogden Mustangs 2
We now have an even series between the Mountain Division’s No. 2 seed Ogden Mustangs vs. No. 3 Utah Outliers. The Utah Outliers won 3-2 on home ice on Sunday, with Justin Obrochta scoring the GWG, and Matthew MacArthur stopping 36 of 38 shots for the win in net. The Outliers came back from being down 1-0 after the first period. For the Mustangs, Dilans Birkans made 23 saves on 26 shots. Game 3 in the series will see puck drop at 7:15 p.m. MDT in Ogden.
P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 2, Rockets Hockey Club 1
The Jr. Islanders took a 2-0 series lead as they won 2-1 against the Rockets Hockey Club on Sunday evening. Both P.A.L. goals were scored by Robert LaChance. Lukas Vejmelka made 31 saves on 32 shots, and Jason Cai turned away 34 of 36 shots. Game 3 will see the scene move to Bridgewater, N.J., home of the Rockets, with Tuesday puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
