Yanick Lemay, general manager of the Drummondville Voltigeurs, is proud to announce the appointment of Mathieu Gravel as head coach of the Voltigeurs.
Having first joined Drummondville in 2016 as part of the coaching staff led by Dominique Ducharme, Mathieu Gravel returned to the Voltigeurs in the summer of 2022 following five successful seasons with the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes. As an assistant coach, he helped the Patriotes win the U SPORTS Canadian championship in 2022.
Since his return, he has played an active role in the cultural shift initiated by the organisation, contributing to player development, the establishment of high standards and the team’s victory in the Gilles-Courteau Trophy in 2024.
On the international stage, Gravel will serve as an assistant coach for the Canadian team for the second straight year at the Under-17 World Challenge, taking place Nov. 1-7, 2026 in Oakville, Ontario.
Having been involved on a day-to-day basis in the players’ development and the running of the team for the past three seasons, he will continue the work he has begun by taking charge of the Voltigeurs today.
“Mathieu was the obvious choice for us. Since returning to the organisation in 2022, he has played a key role in developing our players and establishing the culture we wanted to build. He is a passionate, extremely well-prepared coach who shares our vision for hockey and our values. He knows our organisation, our staff and our players, which will ensure a smooth transition.
“His experience in the QMJHL, his highly successful stint with the UQTR Patriotes and all the work he has done within our organisation give us a total confidence in his abilities. Mathieu has earned this opportunity and we are delighted to entrust him with the reins of our team”, said Yanick Lemay, General Manager of the Voltigeurs.
Mathieu Gravel is embracing this new challenge with great gratitude.
“It is a tremendous honour to become head coach of the Voltigeurs, Gravel said. Since arriving in Drummondville, I have had the privilege of working with passionate people and being part of a group of exceptional players. We have built something special over the last few years and I am very keen to continue this work. I would like to thank Yanick Lemay and the whole organisation for their trust.
“I’m looking forward to working with our players again, continuing to develop them and doing everything I can to ensure our team remains competitive night after night.”
