Dudley-Hewitt Cup field set

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The field of competing teams for the upcoming Dudley-Hewitt Cup in Kirkland Lake, Ont., has been finalized.

Joining the NOJHL champion Soo Thunderbirds and the host Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (NOJHL) at the five-day event will be the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) and the Fort Frances Lakers (SIJHL).

Trenton captured the Ontario Junior Hockey League crown Friday after taking the Buckland Cup in five games over the Georgetown Raiders.

Meanwhile the fourth Dudley-Hewitt representative was determined Saturday evening as the Fort Frances Lakers won their third consecutive Bill Salonen Cup Superior International Junior Hockey League title after defeating the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 4-2 to win that best-of-seven set in six contests.

The Thunderbirds will enter the competition as the defending Dudley-Hewitt Cup title holders after claiming last year’s event in Fort Frances where the defeated the Lakers in the championship game.
