The European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL) is proud to announce the addition of the Košice Kings, who will join the league for the 2027–28 season as part of its continued expansion across Europe.
Located in one of Slovakia’s most passionate hockey cities, the Košice Kings will bring a new dimension to the EUCHL, combining competitive college hockey, university education, and the opportunity for student-athletes to experience life in one of Central Europe’s most historic cities.
A New Home at Hornet Arena
The Košice Kings will play their home games at Arena Šrsňov, known as Hornet Arena, providing the organization with a home venue as it prepares for its inaugural EUCHL season.
The arena will serve as the centre of the Kings’ hockey operations and provide a setting for players, supporters, and the local community to become part of the new program.
Establishing a presence at Hornet Arena represents an important step in building the Kings’ identity and creating a strong connection with the Košice hockey community.
A New Chapter for Hockey in Košice
Košice has a rich hockey tradition and a community that understands and embraces the game. The arrival of the Kings represents an exciting opportunity to build on that tradition while creating a new pathway for international student-athletes seeking to combine their hockey ambitions with an affordable European university education.
The Kings will offer players an opportunity to compete in an international college hockey environment while pursuing academic opportunities and experiencing European culture.
Building the Future of European College Hockey
The addition of Košice reflects the EUCHL’s ongoing commitment to expanding its footprint and establishing a sustainable college hockey model throughout Europe.
The league provides student-athletes with an alternative to traditional North American hockey pathways, bringing together competitive hockey, university partnerships, international recruitment, and opportunities for personal and academic development.
With its expansion into Košice, the EUCHL continues to strengthen its presence in Slovakia and build a growing network of university-connected hockey programs across Central and Eastern Europe.
“We are extremely excited to welcome the Košice Kings to the EUCHL family,” said Joseph Kolodziej, President of the European Union College Hockey League. “Košice is a tremendous hockey city with a strong tradition and a passionate fan base. Having the Kings establish their home at Hornet Arena gives the program a foundation from which to build something special. We believe they will become an important addition to our league and provide another outstanding opportunity for student-athletes from North America and Europe to pursue their hockey and educational goals.”
Looking Ahead to 2027–28
The Košice Kings will begin preparations for their inaugural EUCHL season in 2027–28, with further announcements regarding university partnerships, coaching staff, player recruitment, and program development expected in the coming months.
The expansion marks another important milestone in the EUCHL’s vision of creating a recognized international college hockey league that connects education, competition, and opportunity.
Welcome to the EUCHL, Košice Kings!
