Kirk Brooks is a legend. For those of us who had the pleasure to deal with him, and get to know him through his tireless work in hockey, the loss is a tremendous one.
Brooks, originally from Vegas, bought the Tri City Storm and the arena (known as the Viaero Arena) in 2009 from Joel Weins for $4.3 Million. During his tenure as owner, the Storm won the Clark Cup in the 2015-16 season and won the Anderson Cup in the 2018-19 season, won by the team with the best regular season.
Brooks would sell the team after the 2018-19 season to a group of Chicago businessmen, led by Dave Vennetti.
Brooks was a staple in the Las Vegas hockey community. He owned the Las Vegas Ice Center, where the Storm have previously spent training camp, and where many of us have been scouting showcases for decades.
A straight shooter in all things business and hockey, Brooks was someone who always took care of those he would trust and work with. A generous and humorous man who impacted so many, in a positive way. Kirk Brooks positive impact on peoples lives will continue on after his passing.
