Familiar faces are reunited on this week’s OHL Friday Night Faceoff in Kingston as the Saginaw Spirit visit Slush Puppie Place in their lone trip of the season.
Saginaw, with young additions Xander Velliaris and Ethan Weir, faceoff with the Memorial Cup champion trio of Ethan Hay, Joey Willis and Will Bishop in their first encounter since the January 7th trade that saw the players swap teams.
Despite the loss of three veterans, the Spirit (22-18-1-0) still have big-time firepower in top 2025 NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa who sits second in league scoring with 75 points (37-38–75) along with Calgary Flames first round pick Zayne Parekh on the back end.
The stop in Kingston will be Saginaw’s second of three on the weekend that also includes a Thursday night clash against the Peterborough Petes and a Sunday afternoon duel with the Ottawa 67’s.
The Frontenacs (23-11-5-2) are all-in this season, entering the weekend three points out of first place in the East Division. They feature reigning Cogeco OHL Player of the Week Tuomas Uronen, a Vegas Golden Knights prospect who has come back strong after an injury-shortened 2023-24 season. Cedrick Guindon remains one of the OHL’s top playmakers down the middle while Calgary Flames second round pick Jacob Battaglia is having another productive season offensively. The Fronts also have some muscle on the blueline in captain Quinton Burns as well as dynamic Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Emil Pieniniemi, who won silver with Finland at the World Juniors.
Both teams come into action riding recent success as the Spirit have won three in a row while Kingston won a pair of home games last weekend.
