Gold Miners blank Crunch

COCHRANE – A Jeremy Dumont goal 12:10 into the first period proved to be the only marker of the night while Josh Erickson turned aside all 31 shots he faced to backstop the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Cochrane Crunch Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Dumont’s 23rd tally of the season turned out to be his first game-winning goal of the season as his effort eluded Brett Young in the Cochrane net on an effort that saw Ryan Aubertin and Zach Pease pick up the assists.

Both netminders shut the door the rest of the way as they kept opposing shooters at bay in the low-scoring affair.

The victory for Erickson was his second shutout overall and league-leading 22nd win of the campaign as he lowered his NOJHL-best goals-against average and save percentage to 2.17 and .924 respectively.

Young was equally as solid between the pipes for the Crunch finishing with 37 stops in defeat as Cochrane was blanked for just the second time this season.
