KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Marc-Antoine Arseneau had a hat trick and his team got three points apiece from Brayden Stortz, Jamey Lauzon and Arthur Miller to help the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners blast the Timmins Rock 8-1 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
The opening period was scoreless until there was just one second to go as the Gold Miners struck late on a Blake Anderson buzzer beater.
Kirkland Lake built on that late marker and blew the game open in the middle stanza as they tallied six times to take control of the contest.
Lauzon with one and Arseneau with two, a minute and a half apart, sent the home side on their way.
Lauzon, Miller and A.J. Rupert added later efforts in the session to put the Gold Miners up by seven through two periods of play.
Timmin’s Joe Olson broke Tyler Mazzocato’s shutout bid in the Kirkland Lake net at 4:53 before Arseneau capped off his three-goal night with a power play marker at 14:17 to round out the scoring.
Stortz had three assists to aid the winner’s cause.
Mazzocato finished with 27 saves in picking up the victory.
Logan Ferrington played two periods and faced 32 shots for the Rock in suffering the loss while Mike Gresko turned aside 10 of 11 attempts in 20 minutes of relief.
