Gold Miners Bury Eskis

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Logan Fredericks had a hat trick and extended a point streak to a dozen Friday as the visiting Kirkland Lake Gold Miners defeated the Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Friday at Jus Jordan Arena.

Iroquois Falls did get on the board first notching the lone goal of the first frame on David Osborne’s team-leading 31st marker of the season with 35 seconds left in the frame.

It stayed 1-0 for the home team until the late stages of the second when Fredericks supplied the equalizer at 18:30 to send the two sides to the dressing rooms tied at 1-1 through 40 minutes.

Brayden Stortz had the eventual game-winner for the Gold Miners at 4:43 of the third as he collected his 32nd tally of 2015-16.

Fredericks added some insurance nine minutes later with an unassisted effort then finished off his three-tally night with a couple of nice dekes on Eskis goaltender Matthew Camilleri with 38 seconds left to round out the scoring.

Stortz and Alexander Hester both dished out two assists in the win for Kirkland Lake.

Tyler Mazzocato started for the Gold Miners and played the first two periods stopping 23 of 24 while Victor-Olivier Courchesne came in for the final frame and handled all 13 attempts he faced in relief to pick-up the win.

Camilleri saw 46 shots fired his way in defeat for Iroquois Falls.
