KIRKLAND LAKE – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners used a well-balanced attack getting goals from five different players to rally and win their eighth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game in a row to defeat the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats 5-2 Saturday evening at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
After a scoreless opening period Elliot Lake jumped to a 2-0 lead getting tallies 66 seconds apart from Jason Wilson and Cole Hepler.
Answering back in quick order, Kirkland Lake struck three times is succession to go in front after 40 minutes.
Gold Miners’ captain Ethan Strong put his club on the board at 10:30 while Ryan Aubertin notched the equalizer a few shifts later.
Luc Soares then slammed home the eventual game-winner at 16:35 to put the home side up for good.
Kirkland Lake then put the game away in the final frame getting efforts courtesy of Ryan Swain and Alexi Rivet to round out the scoring.
Steven Babin and Dylan Rosen dished out two assists to chip in offensively for the Gold Miners.
Shots on goal favoured the winning side 32-18 with Josh Erickson picking up his sixth straight win in net and A.J. Smith suffering the loss.
