Gold Miners clip Eagles 6-2

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got the game’s opening goal from Logan Fredericks, who went on to add three assists, to help them defeat the Soo Eagles 6-2 Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Fredericks got the Gold Miners going 6:48 into the contest while teammate Evan Bidenti added to the Kirkland Lake cushion nine and a half minutes later.

Brett Ouderkirk’s 20th of season made it 3-0 in the early stages of the second period before Evan Ketner got one back for the Eagles at 6:19.

Brayden Stortz put in his 31st of the campaign at 12:15 to give the Gold Miners a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.

In the third, Marc-Antoine Arseneau’s 23rd midway through the final frame added to the Kirkland Lake lead.

Gord Helmuth added one for Sault Ste. Marie with a minute and a half to go before Sam Mancini capped off the scoring for the Gold Miners with 56 seconds left.

Stortz, Arseneau, Blake Anderson and Dylan Holt all dished out two assists each in the win for Kirkland Lake.

Shots on goal favoured the Gold Miners 29-19 with Victor-Olivier Courchesne picking up the win and Jack Hickey suffering the loss.
