SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a pair of goals from Marc-Antoine Arseneau to help propel them past the Soo Eagles 6-3 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Pullar Stadium.

Kirkland Lake got things going offensively with 4:54 to go in the opening period thanks to Logan Fredericks.

Then a minute and a half later while down a man the Gold Miners struck again as Joel Fortin notched a shorthanded marker to make it 2-0.

The Eagles got  one back with 23 seconds left in the frame as Jake Saxton tallied late for the home side.

Arseneau made it 3-1 midway through the second only to see Sault Ste. Marie counter that with a Chris Hazen marker.

Answering right away Kirkland Lake scored 20 seconds later off the stick of Even Bidenti, who scored his first NOJHL goal.

Not done there Arseneau notched his second of stanza at 17:01 to put the Gold Miners up 5-2 through 40 minutes.

The two clubs then traded tallies in the third from Brayden Stortz of Kirkland Lake and the Soo’s Dayton Honkanen to round out the night’s scoring.

Victor-Olivier Courchesne made 28 saves to post his second straight win for the Gold Miners.

Jack Hickey started for the Eagles and played two periods in suffering the loss making 21 stops with Jack Deines turning aside seven of eight attempts in 20 minutes of relief.
