Gold Miners earn 2nd win in as many nights

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got three goals and an assist from William Miziuk to help pace his side to an 8-3 decision over the French River Rapids Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Noelville Arena.

Each team would score once in the opening 20 minutes with Stavros Soilis starting things off for Kirkland Lake while shorthanded before Matthieu Verrault added one on the power play three and a half minutes later.

It was all Gold Miners in the middle session as they struck three times to go up 4-1 on efforts from Miziuk, Alex Storjohann and Marshal Nikitin’s first NOJHL marker.

A trio of quick tallies to begin the third put the visitors in full control as Storjohann, Miziuk and Kevin Ford made it 7-1 before the final frame had reached four minutes.

The Rapids did get a couple back thanks to man advantage efforts from Verrault and Dew Tobobandung before Miziuk capped off his big night at 12:17 to round out the scoring.

Jeff Veitch faced 21 shots in goal for Kirkland Lake in earning the win.

Scott Adams suffered the loss for French River allowing seven on 37 attempts and Korlan Vader stopping 19 of 20 in relief.
