Gold Miners handle Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners two goals and three assists from Brandon Wolfe as well as a hat trick and a helper from Marc-Antoine Arseneau to pace them to an 8-2 triumph over the French River Rapids in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Noelville Arena.

Brayden Stortz got Kirkland Lake going with a man advantage effort at 6:48 while Arseneau made it 2-0 five minutes later.

French River got one back with a man advantage effort of their own at 17:02 courtesy of Brennan Kelly’s fourth of the season.

Wolfe however made it 3-1 Gold Miners notching his first of the night with 30 seconds left in the frame.

The visitors added two more in the second to go up 5-1 after 40 minutes on markers supplied by Arseneau and Konnor Madsen’s first NOJHL goal.

Kirkland Lake then put the game away early in the third striking three times in a four-minute span getting goals from Stortz, Arseneau and Wolfe to go up by six.

The Rapids did get one back off the stick of Kelly at 6:02 to round out the scoring.

Joel Fortin supplied three assists for the Gold Miners in the win.

Tyler Mazzocato made 25 saves to pick up the victory for Kirkland Lake.

Zach Mills and Chad Mosley both saw action in net for French River facing 59 shots combined in defeat.
