Gold Miners rally to edge Eskis

Kirkland Lake, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a pair of special teams tallies in the second half of the third period to help them rally for a 3-2 victory over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Iroquois Falls picked up the lone marker in the opening period as Blake Holowaty finished off a David Osborne feed at 6:19.

Dylan Holt tied it for the Gold Miners midway through the middle stanza only to see Osborne bury his 23rd of the campaign to put the visitors up 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Former Eskis forward Brett Ouderkirk knotted the affair with 9:08 remaining in regulation as he struck shorthanded.

On a late power play, Kirkland Lake got the game-winner as Brayden Stortz collected his 27th of the campaign with two and a half minutes to go.

Victor-Olivier Courchesne handled 17 of the 19 shots he faced to record the win for the Gold Miners while Joe Sheppard stopped 27 attempts in the setback for the Eskis.
