Gold Miners slip past Crunch

COCHRANE – A Ryan Aubertin goal 7:07 into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners defeated the Cochrane Crunch 3-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

The visiting Gold Miners opened the scoring six minutes into the contest as Ryan Swain notched his 13th of the season.

Cochrane pulled even three and a half minutes later via the power play as Cody Gratton buried his league-leading 39th tally of the campaign.

The score stayed at 1-1 until Aubertin supplied the winner in the final frame.

He then set-up Connor Thie for an insurance marker in the latter the stages of the contest to round out the scoring.

The Thie effort, along with an earlier assist, allowed him to run a consecutive game point streak to 10.

Josh Erickson picked up the win for Kirkland Lake making 27 saves on the night.

Brett Young suffered the loss for the Crunch as he faced 37 shots in defeat.
