Harvard Coach Joins NCDC’s P.A.L. Jr. Islanders, USPHL Premier’s San Diego Sabers At NCDC Camp

The NCDC’s P.A.L. Jr. Islanders and their USPHL Premier affiliates the San Diego Sabers are presenting a fantastic opportunity for prospective NCDC players to not only get scouted, recruited and evaluated by the NCDC and Premier staffs, but also by a member of Harvard University’s NCAA Division I men’s hockey staff.

Harvard Asst. Coach James Marcou will join his brother and NCDC P.A.L. Jr. Islanders Head Coach Mike Marcou on the ice, along with additional members of the Jr. Islanders and San Diego Sabers staffs. All of this takes place at the Sabers/P.A.L. NCDC Camp April 14-15, 2023.

“This will be our second year holding an event like this. Last year I was able to tender two players and draft two players from this event. There is a lot of talent out on the West Coast and this helps with recruiting,” said P.A.L.’s Mike Marcou. “This year, we are adding my brother James Marcou who is the assistant coach of Harvard. I think this will help show kids what the Pathway To College Hockey could be. Doing this event with the Sabers is showing that you can go from Premier to NCDC to playing college hockey. We hope to keep expanding our camp every year and we have had a great turnout so far on registrations.”

San Diego Sabers General Manager Domenick DiCicco is co-organizing the event with the Marcou brothers and is excited to bring a taste of NCDC hockey to the Pacific Coast. He hopes that current Sabers players and other Sabers hopefuls will be able to catch the eye of the NCDC staff – and potentially Harvard’s Coach Marcou.

“The opportunity to help showcase the players and talent on the West Coast to different levels of junior hockey, USPHL Premier and NCDC, as well as a top-tier collegiate program such as Harvard is exciting. There are a lot of great players on the West Coast that don’t always get to show their talents to the higher level coaches,” said DiCicco. “Partnering with Mike from P.A.L. and James from Harvard provides an exciting opportunity to the players in the Sabers organization as well as all players who attend. Mike and I held our first combine last year and it was a great experience for players who attended with several receiving contract offers from the Sabers, two players getting tendered by P.A.L., along with several players being drafted in the NCDC Entry Draft by P.A.L. The ability to show to players and their families that the partnerships between levels exists is fantastic for the hockey landscape. Players who attend will play in games, attend a skills session run by the coaches of Harvard, P.A.L. and San Diego, as well as a seminar discussing the Path To College Hockey and Junior Hockey.”
