Hitmen acquire Calgary Flames prospect Stockselius from Thunderbirds

Calgary, Alta. – The Calgary Hitmen have acquired Calgary Flames prospect Theo Stockselius from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a collection of draft picks. The two Clubs announced the trade Friday afternoon.

In exchange for the rights to Stockselius, the Thunderbirds acquire a conditional first-round pick (2027), a fourth-round pick (2027), a conditional fifth-round pick (2029), and a conditional sixth-round pick (2026).

Stockselius, who hails from Norrtalje, Sweden, was selected by the Flames in the second round (54th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft.

A 6-foot-3, 196-pound centre was chosen by the Thunderbirds in the second round (83rd overall)of the 2025 CHL Import Draft.

Yet to sign a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, Stockselius is currently with Djurgardens IF U20 in Sweden, where has collected seven assists in five games to start the campaign. He has also seen action in one game with the Djurgardens IF pro squad in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).

Stockselius has been a staple on the international stage for Sweden, securing silver medals at the 2024 World Junior A Challenge and 2025 IIHF U18 World Championship. At the U18 World Championship, Stockselius recorded five points (1G-4A) in seven contests.

Ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft, NHL Central Scouting ranked Stockselius 13th among International skaters.

Stockselius is widely regarded as a skilled and crafty playmaker.

Though Stockselius won’t be in the lineup, the Hitmen return to the ice Saturday, October 4, when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7 p.m. MT. You can watch the game FREE on Victory+.
