Hockey Manitoba Turns 100 Today; Celebration Continues With Outdoor Series

Hockey Manitoba is honoured to recognize Saturday December 20, 2014 as the official mark of 100 years as an organization. The milestone is acknowledged by the anniversary of the organization’s first meeting held on December 20, 1914 what was then known as Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association.

The special day will be celebrated with the continuation of the 100th Anniversary Outdoor Series presented by Scotiabank, which will see the Seven Oaks Raiders and the River East Royal Knights clash at Red River Community Centre this afternoon. The game, which is slated as a regular season match-up of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League (MMJHL), will begin at 2:00 PM with a ceremonial puck drop with Bill Whitehead, President of Hockey Manitoba.

Hockey Manitoba will has hosted four feature games thus far with local elite teams to highlight the upcoming province-wide 100th Anniversary Outdoor Series taking place on February 15, 2015. The feature games have all been held at Red River Community Centre located at 293 Murray Avenue in Winnipeg.

100th Anniversary Outdoor Series – Feature Game Schedule:

Dec 17 – 6:00 PM Female Midget AAA/Prep – Winnipeg Avros 2-1 over Balmoral Hall Blazers

Dec 17 – 8:00 PM Female Prep – Shaftsbury Titans 2-1 (SO) over St. Mary’s Flames

Dec 18 – 6:00 PM Bantam 1 AAA – Winnipeg Sharks 4-3 over Winnipeg Hawks

Dec 18 – 8:00 PM Bantam 1 AAA – Winnipeg Warriors 5-3 over Winnipeg Monarchs

Dec 20 – 2:00 PM MMJHL* – Seven Oaks Raider vs River East Royal Knights

*Regular season league game

Teams in the feature games will compete outdoors wearing CCM 100th Anniversary commemorative jerseys provided by Hockey Manitoba. Each game score will also be tallied into the Outdoor Series Black vs Gold game, with scores from all Outdoor Series feature games and province-wide games on February 15th being collectively totalled to determine if Team Black or Team Gold will win the 100th Anniversary Outdoor Series presented by Scotiabank. After the first four feature games Team Gold leads Team Black 12-9.
